September 25, 2010

Antelope hunting season began yesterday in Wyoming, Wesat down for lunch here at The Virginian Hotel and around us were hunters, dressed in their camoflage, and talking about their day. A hunter who sat across from us had bagged two antelope in the morning – this was themaximum allowed. The hotel was very old fashion however the waitress informed us that although it was not busy now – they were preparing for a busy evening since folks coming back from the University of Wyoming football game today in Laramie, would be stopping for supper. author Owen Wister wrote The Virginian, a pioneering old west novel in 1902 dealing with the Johnson County War. This book was dedicated to Theodore Roosevelt, who was a friend of Mister’s. This book became the basis for the popular TV series of the same name. Mister has spent a good deal of time writing this novel in Medicine Bow at the Virginian Hotel.
