We were delayed in beating closing time (2 PM) due to some heavy rain and when we arrived at 2:15 PM Larry Goodale must have taken pity on us because, despite having already started to clean up the kitchen and get food ready for tomorrow, he sat us down at a table and began turning out a spectacular spread, that included unbelievable pumpkin pancakes and also regular pancakes with raspberry sauce with Larry’s grandmother’s syrup. The syrup was light and delicious and laced with side order of ham. He also made and served us wonderful omelets filled with artichoke. When I asked him if he had any maple syrup for the pancakes he feigned insult and went on to describe the process he went through to duplicate his grandma’s recipe. Not only was the food the most memorable of the trip, Larry also provided a banter as he prepared us the feast. We left not only stuffed but so very appreciative of how friendly folks were in these parts.
One last thing: the red syrup dispensers are tricky to use. If you turn them on end and squeeze them you end up with a bottle full all over you and maybe (if you are lucky) some on the food. However we were warned (not to squeeze) and thus the proper level of syrup was dispensed.
