on the Colorado River (upper)
near Moab, Utah
September 28, 2010
As noted John was the guide assigned to our group on the trip down the Colorado River. We enjoyed his humor, his insight into the history and geology of the area, and his ability to make the trip interesting. At midway down the river the couple that we had started with disembarked, and a small group (a family and 2 Dutch men) got on for the 2nd half. From time to time John gave those who wanted to, a chance to row and steer down the river. By mid-day, what started as a cool morning turned hot, although the dryness kept us from sweating too much. The safety vests were hot and made rowing somewhat uncomfortable. However the river was flowing at about 3-4mph and this made rowing a requirement more for steering than for travel.
