Christine was our waitperson at the café – and she was great. As my previous note revealed we arrived at the café 15 minutes after closing. At the door Christine met us, opened the already locked door, informed us that the café had closed (for the day), and then went to discuss our dilemma with her boss (Larry) after we told her that we had come from Vermont (and from Cape Cod) to Ames just to eat at the restaurant. I am sure the Christine’s input to Larry was the driving force behind their opening the place up to us and being so warm and friendly. We thought, where else in the country would someone so agreeably open up shop so long after closing just to feed some tourists. Christine told us that she was originally from the west, but had lived in the Ames area for more than a decade. Married and with children, she had grown over the years to respect Larry as a boss (“he always speaks his mind.”). At one point she had left the restaurant but apparently returned because she enjoyed the customers and the work. Clearly she was very good with customers and was a hard worker.
