74. The Corn Palace

Originally built in 1892 (as “The Corn Belt Exposition”) to advertise the rich soil of the area and encourage people to settle here, the minarets and Moorish domes were added in 1937. Each year the palace is redecorated at a cost of $130,000. It now boasts a basketball arena and is a popular tourist destination., We arrived late in the season and with few tourists. They were already starting re-decoration for 2011.
