75. Just a Place to Stay

Pierre, South Dakota

September 23, 2010

The ride from Mitchell to Pierre (154 miles) was arduous with a very isolated and rural feeling to the road there. Our GPS system did us well but it was late as we descended into the valley where Pierre is located, and the last road was narrow, seemed to descend steeply, and at one point I was worried that the GPS was wrong. I learned to never doubt what “Diane” told us to do. We came into Pierre after 9pm and after some effort we found our motel (Budget Motel -$65/night) and went to bed. The motel was rumored to have last been renovated in the 1970’s – and it matched the rumors. However it was a place to stay the night, the man at the front desk was helpful and friendly, and it was a place to sleep.
